ISO 9001:2026: scope and objectives

Build a quality management system that connects customer requirements, accountable processes, performance and improvement.

ISO 9001:2026 is the current published edition. Organisations transitioning from ISO 9001:2015 should agree applicable transition timing and audit arrangements with their certification body.

Proposed scope of services

We agree the scope, delivery responsibilities and outputs for each engagement. The activities below describe a practical path and are tailored to your organisation.

Engagement phaseActivities
Context, customers and scopeIdentify products, services, customers, interested parties, external and internal context, and define the QMS boundary.
Leadership and quality objectivesClarify leadership responsibilities, quality policy, measurable objectives and the role of quality culture.
Process mappingMap how work is requested, delivered, checked and handed off, including process owners, inputs, outputs and dependencies.
Risks, opportunities and planningAssess risks and opportunities affecting quality outcomes and plan proportionate actions.
Operational controlsReview relevant requirements, supplier controls, competence, resources, change management and service or product delivery practices.
Customer feedback and performanceSet practical measures, collect customer feedback and complaints, and review process performance.
Documented informationOrganise procedures, work instructions, evidence of operation and records needed for the agreed scope.
Internal audit and management reviewAssess the QMS, review findings and performance with management, and track corrective actions.
Certification and transition supportCoordinate with the independent body on readiness, audit planning, findings and any applicable transition from an earlier edition.
Continual improvementReview recurring issues, corrective actions and opportunities to improve outcomes.

Readiness and certification path

We work with your team to establish the management system, operate the agreed processes, review evidence and address internal findings. The selected independent certification body determines its own audit scope and conducts the assessment. Initial certification commonly includes a Stage 1 readiness and planning review followed by a Stage 2 assessment of implementation and effectiveness. We can support coordination, responses and corrective actions; the independent body makes the certification decision.

Typical deliverables

  • QMS scope, process map and responsibility matrix
  • Quality policy, objectives and performance measures
  • Risk and opportunity register and improvement plan
  • Operational documentation, feedback and evidence records
  • Internal audit, management review and assessment-support records

Our engagement approach

  • Scope-led: tailor the management system to the organisation’s activities, boundaries and objectives.
  • Evidence-driven: connect documented processes to responsible owners and evidence of operation.
  • Practical implementation: prioritise gaps and improvements with agreed owners and timeframes.
  • Independent assessment: support the audit process while preserving the certification body’s independent role.
  • Continual improvement: hand over actions and review arrangements so the management system can continue to operate.

Reference: ISO guidance for ISO 9001:2026. The applicable edition, scope, assessment arrangements and deliverables are confirmed for each engagement.

Where an independent certification or attestation applies, the relevant independent body makes its own assessment and decision. Scope and availability are agreed individually.
